Federal Money Services Business Association
FedMSB
The Federal Money Services Business Association (FedMSB) is a U.S.-based nonprofit trade association devoted to empowering, unifying, and advancing the Money Services Business (MSB) sector. As the central convening body for MSBs across the United States, FedMSB is committed to building the next-generation MSB 2.0 architecture that reflects the evolving regulatory, technological, and operational demands of the industry.

Our Mission
FedMSB’s mission is to empower, support, and advance Money Services Businesses (MSBs) across the United States by promoting regulatory clarity, fostering innovation, building compliance excellence, and shaping the next-generation MSB 2.0 ecosystem.
Our Action Map
FedMSB exists to represent and support the diverse range of licensed and registered MSBs, including money transmitters, money order issuers, currency exchangers, virtual currency firms, and other financial technology platforms. We advocate for fair, modern regulation and foster innovation while ensuring the integrity and safety of financial systems.
1. Enable our members to thrive in a fast-changing regulatory and technological environment;
2. Promote best practices and responsible innovation across the MSB sector;
3. Bridge dialogue between industry, regulators, and the financial ecosystem to foster mutual understanding and progress;
4. Deliver tools, education, and certification to strengthen sector-wide resilience and capability.
What We Do
1. Licensing Support – We assist member organizations in navigating the complex web of state and federal MSB licensing. Our guidance covers application preparation, regulatory interpretation, and license maintenance across jurisdictions.
2. Compliance Guidance – We help members build robust compliance programs tailored to AML, KYC, and data governance standards. Our compliance resources are practical, continuously updated, and adaptable for firms of all sizes.
3. Standards & Certification – FedMSB acts as a neutral standards-setting body. We publish best practices, issue certifications, and provide industry benchmarking frameworks to elevate trust and professionalism within the MSB sector.
4. Technical Infrastructure – We support the design and implementation of scalable, secure infrastructure that promotes interoperability, regulatory transparency, and operational efficiency for MSBs. Our architecture is open to member contributions and collaborative iteration.
5. Research, Publications & Tools – FedMSB produces thought leadership, toolkits, and operational templates to inform practice and policy. Our publications support risk management, process optimization, and forward-looking regulatory adaptation.
6. Professional Development & Networking – We offer year-round educational programs, webinars, events, and community engagement opportunities for professionals at all stages of their MSB careers.
7. Industry Representation – FedMSB represents its members before regulatory agencies, legislative bodies, and banking partners to ensure their voices are heard in key policy discussions and industry reform efforts.

Our Unique Role
FedMSB is not a financial institution. We do not conduct or supervise money transmission, foreign exchange, or virtual currency transactions. Rather, we serve the industry as a:
1. Publisher of authoritative knowledge and sector insights;
2. Certifying authority for MSB standards and industry benchmarks;
3. Neutral convener for cross-sector collaboration and regulatory dialogue.
As a nonprofit organization, FedMSB does not issue stock, has no owners or shareholders, and operates exclusively for the collective benefit of its members.
Why FedMSB Matters
The MSB sector is diverse, vital, and often misunderstood. FedMSB provides a unified, credible, and future-oriented platform to:
1. Strengthen public understanding of MSBs;
2. Improve access to banking and infrastructure;
3. Mitigate regulatory risk;
4. Foster trust in digital and traditional money services.
We are building a more connected, capable, and collaborative MSB ecosystem for the United States and beyond.
